November: Honoring the Energy of Endings

(Ritual & Spell at the end)

As the crisp chill of November settles in, we step into a month that’s both rich with spiritual meaning and profoundly reflective for practitioners of paganism and witchcraft. In many ways, November serves as the twilight between seasons—a time to look inward, honor endings, and prepare for the journey inward that winter asks of us. This is a powerful month for releasing and letting go, with the energy of autumn’s final days supporting us as we transition toward the deeper quiet of winter.

November’s Lunar Magic

The moon in November is traditionally known as the Beaver Moon. This full moon, which usually falls near the beginning of the month, gained its name from Indigenous tribes and early settlers, as this was the time to set beaver traps before ponds froze. For witches and pagans, this moon is also known as the Frost Moon—a name that speaks to the thinning warmth and the first signs of frost settling on the earth.

The Beaver Moon brings energies of preparation and protection, helping us lay groundwork for the winter months ahead. This full moon is a perfect opportunity to practice self-care, to plan for the colder, quieter times to come, and to gather both physical and spiritual supplies for the season of introspection.

November’s waning moon also lends itself to spells of release. As the moon diminishes in the sky, we’re invited to let go of what no longer serves us. This aligns with the natural theme of November: just as trees shed their leaves, we, too, can release what we’ve outgrown or no longer need, clearing the way for new growth in the future.

An Ending Spell for Release

In the spirit of November, an Ending Spell can help clear out stagnant energy and make space for new blessings. You can use this spell to release unwanted patterns, relationships, or any lingering energy that feels misaligned. With the help of this month’s potent moon energy, the spell can be particularly powerful.

Ending Spell for Release

What You’ll Need:

• A black candle (for banishing)

• A small piece of paper and pen

• Sage, rosemary, or incense for cleansing

• A small bowl or fire-safe dish

1. Set Your Sacred Space: Begin by cleansing the space with sage, rosemary, or incense. Visualize the smoke clearing away negativity and filling the area with peace and intention.

2. Write Your Intention: On the piece of paper, write down what you wish to release. This could be a specific thought pattern, relationship, or fear. Be as specific as possible, putting your energy and intent into each word.

3. Light the Candle: Light the black candle, symbolizing the release of unwanted energy. Take a few moments to center yourself, breathing deeply and connecting with the intention of letting go.

4. Focus on Release: Hold the paper in your hands, close your eyes, and visualize your life free from the attachment or burden. Picture yourself feeling lighter and at peace.

5. Burn the Paper: Carefully burn the paper in the candle’s flame and place it in the fire-safe dish. As it burns, say a release affirmation, such as:

• “With this flame, I release what no longer serves me. I make space for peace, growth, and clarity.”

6. Close the Spell: Once the paper is completely burned, let the candle continue to burn if you feel called to do so, or extinguish it to symbolize the closure of this energy. Thank any spirits or energies you’ve called on to witness and support your release.

This spell can be done at any time during November, but it’s especially potent on the night of the waning moon. As you move forward, trust that you have released what was necessary and that you’re preparing fertile ground for whatever the coming months have in store.

Embracing November’s Energies

November, with its stillness and depth, is a beautiful month to honor the endings in our lives. Paganism and witchcraft teach us that endings are as sacred as beginnings; they pave the way for something new, offering us a chance to rest, reflect, and grow. Embracing the natural cycles of the moon and season, we are reminded that life, like nature, ebbs and flows—and each phase is a gift, guiding us closer to our true selves.

May this November be a month of release, healing, and quiet magic. Blessed be!
