January marks the threshold of the new year, a time for fresh starts, reflection, and grounding. Named after Janus, the Roman god of doorways and transitions, January offers the perfect opportunity to honor the past while setting intentions for the future. With the winter stillness and the promise of growth ahead, this month’s energy is deeply connected to transformation, balance, and clarity.
The Full Moon in January: The Wolf Moon
The full moon of January is known as the Wolf Moon, named for the haunting howls of wolves echoing in the cold winter nights. It is a moon of strength, resilience, and intuition, encouraging us to tap into our instincts and navigate the quiet, reflective energy of winter.
New Moon and Full Moon Dates and Times!
In January 2025, the Full Moon, known as the Wolf Moon, will occur on Monday, January 13, at 5:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). The New Moon is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, at 7:37 a.m. EST.
These lunar phases are significant in various cultural and astrological contexts, often symbolizing times for reflection and new beginnings.
The Wolf Moon is a time to focus on:
• Strength: Draw upon your inner power to persevere through challenges.
• Community: Wolves remind us of the importance of connection and unity. Reconnect with your spiritual family or loved ones.
• Self-Reflection: Dive into the depths of your intuition and explore your shadow self.

This simple ritual aligns with January’s energy to help you release the old and welcome the new with clarity and strength.
What You’ll Need:
( if you have my January subscription box, everything that you need and more is inside! Your subscription boxes align with the themes of the Sabbath, full moon, or new moon each month, ensuring all items are thoughtfully curated for ritual or spell purposes.)
• A white candle (for clarity and purification)
• A sprig of rosemary (for cleansing and protection)
• A small bowl of water (to represent renewal)
• A piece of paper and a pen
The Ritual:
1. Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Light the white candle and take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
2. Hold the rosemary in your hands and visualize it absorbing any lingering negativity or stagnant energy. Place it beside the candle.
3. Write on the paper what you wish to release—old fears, habits, or anything that no longer serves your path. Fold the paper in half and say:
“By light of flame and power of will,
I release what holds me still.
With clarity bright and heart anew,
I welcome change, my path is true.”
4. Burn the paper in a fireproof dish or over the candle flame (safely) and drop the ashes into the bowl of water.
5. Dip your fingers into the water and touch your forehead, symbolizing a cleansed mind and spirit.
6. Extinguish the candle, thanking it for its guidance. Dispose of the rosemary and water respectfully.
January’s magic lies in its quiet invitation to reflect, renew, and grow. As the Wolf Moon shines its light and the New Moon offers a blank canvas, embrace the transformative energy of the season. By honoring this month’s correspondences and incorporating intentional rituals, you can align with its rhythm and step into the new year with purpose and clarity.
May this January bring you peace, wisdom, and magical new beginnings. Blessed be!
Love, Freya of Mystical Crow
